Women Who Inspire: Eva Ferlan
By Ziva Javersek
In today’s interview, we are delighted to introduce Eva Ferlan.
I first met Eva when she was designing the interior of the Extraordinary shop in the heart of Ljubljana, where Viva's bags are available. I was immediately drawn to her creative touch, the way she carefully selects materials and effortlessly blends textures and colors.
Beyond her work, Eva is a mother, a devoted dog lover, and a true ambassador of slow living. She chose to leave behind the fast-paced rhythm of city life and settle in the countryside with her family, embracing a more peaceful and intentional way of living.
Join us as we get to know Eva better in this inspiring conversation. The photos were taken in a stunning apartment she recently designed.
1. How would you describe yourself in three words?
Sincere, curious, creative.
2. What makes you happy?
My loved ones, Faro, and everything that inspires me.
3. What is your morning routine?
Coffee.
4. What is your passion? What inspires you?
My passion lies in transforming spaces into personalized environments that reflect the unique tastes and lifestyles of my clients. I find great joy in collaborating with them to understand their visions and needs. Ultimately, my goal is to design interiors that are not only beautiful but also functional and enjoyable to live in. Inspiration is truly everywhere—you just need to keep your eyes wide open.
5. What does sustainability mean to you?
A respectful and thoughtful attitude toward nature, animals, and people.
6. Is there a particular interior project that stands out as your favorite or that you’re most proud of?
Every project is special to me in its own way. The one that stands out most is House by the Forest. It was created for two people I know very well, who worked closely with me throughout the process to fully realize the vision. For me, it’s essential that clients trust you, engage with you, and, in the end, share the commitment to bring the project to life.
7. Sustainability is becoming increasingly important in design—how do you incorporate eco-friendly elements into your projects?
I focus on using materials that are local, natural, and durable. I’m concerned about the mass production of “beautiful” products that are trendy and cheap but not built to last. People buy them without thinking about where these objects will be in 10 years. Everything seems programmed to be disposable. I believe objects should be meaningful, durable, and part of a slower, more intentional way of living.
8. When starting a new project, what’s your creative process like? Where do you find inspiration?
I seek inspiration in the people for whom I design and in the environment where the space is located. Otherwise, I’m always looking for inspiration everywhere—it’s important to observe and stay curious.
9. If you could design a dream space with no limitations, what would it look like?
Right now, my dream space would be a self-sufficient farm in the most unspoiled nature possible. A simple, single-story house with wide glass surfaces, designed for comfortable and harmonious living.
10. How do you balance your professional life with your private life? How do you unwind?
I have a three-year-old daughter and an 11-month-old dog, so free time is very limited. This is probably the stage of my life when I have the least time for myself. Still, I find relaxation in playing with my daughter—her imagination is so inspiring. Walking in the forest, either with my family or just with the dog, is also an important source of peace for me.
11. Do you have any special rituals?
My ritual is my morning coffee. :)
12. Your favorite song?
Angels by The XX.
13. What do you always carry in your bag?
A book, mini wallet, annual planner, lip balm, hand cream, mint candies, a Pilot pen, receipts, candy wrappers, water, keys, and my phone.
